Pre-Planning Your Overseas Move
KNOW WHAT DOCUMENTS YOU WILL NEED
| Passport: | If you already have one, check on the expiration date. |
| Visas: | If they are required and what type you will need. |
| Photographs: | Find out how many you’ll need and be sure to take more than enough..about a dozen and a negative. |
| Health Records: | Obtain international health records, school health records and physical reports. If vaccinations are necessary, they must be recorded in an “International Certificates of Vaccination booklet, available from most public health offices. Keep it with your passport. All vaccinations can be recorded in this document. In addition, the World Health Organization may require the “International Certificates of Vaccination” against cholera and yellow fever under certain conditions. |
| School Records: | Yours and your children’s. If you’re interested in taking correspondence courses, now is the time to see what is available and the requirements. |
| Driver’s License: | Find out what type of license is acceptable where you are going to live or where you may travel. |
| Work Documents: | If you will be working or your spouse wishes to work, check with the embassy or regional consulate of the country where
you will reside and ask them for specific requirements for residence and employment permits. Check your insurance information to be sure you’re covered in the country where you’ll be living and make any adjustments. Take care of your marriage certificate and baptismal certificates for your children. |
BE SURE TO CARRY ALL YOUR VITAL DOCMENTS WITH YOU
PLACE ALL DOCUMENTS AND ITEMS NEEDED DURING TRANSIT TOGETHER IN ONE LOCATION
- Passport, tickets and address book, important papers
- Secure all valuables, ensure that they will not be packed by mistake with your storage, surface or air shipments. Plan to carry items of value; stamp collections, jewelry, birth and marriage records and other documents.
